About Gedaliah Wolosh

Photography is my way of merging science, art, and a deeper sense of purpose—capturing the unseen beauty of the natural world and the intricate order within creation. As a Lubavitcher Hasid with a Ph.D. in chemistry, I see my work as an opportunity to explore the wonders of G-d's universe, revealing the hidden details that exist all around us but often go unnoticed.
My photography is deeply influenced by my background in science and my appreciation for the divine harmony found in even the smallest structures of life and matter. My primary focus is on macro and micro photography, using advanced imaging techniques to document scientific and natural phenomena. Whether I’m capturing the crystalline patterns of chemical compounds under cross-polarized light, the intricate textures of a peacock feather at high magnification, or the dynamic life forms in a drop of water, my goal is to highlight the beauty and precision inherent in creation.
I experiment with lighting, optical setups, and post-processing to enhance these details while maintaining their authenticity. Every image I create is the result of careful planning, patience, and precision. My workflow is entirely manual—exposure, focus, and stacking are all meticulously controlled to ensure the highest level of clarity and detail. My approach is rooted in both scientific methodology and an artistic pursuit of excellence, allowing me to push the limits of macro and micro photography while staying true to the subject’s natural form.
In addtion to macro photography, I have a deep interest in microscopy and exploring the hidden world of microorganisms. Microbe hunting allows me to observe the incredible diversity of life in a single drop of water, from ciliates and rotifers to algae and other microscopic structures. While it’s unlikely that this work will result in fine art images, I find the scientific discovery just as rewarding. I document my observations through videos and detailed blog posts, sharing the fascinating behaviors and structures I encounter under the microscope. Whether studying aquatic microbes, examining crystal formations, or exploring fluorescence at the microscopic level, I aim to reveal the complexity and beauty of the unseen world.
Beyond photography, my work in research and high-performance computing influences my methodical approach to imaging. My scientific background enables me to design experiments that not only produce visually striking images but also provide meaningful insights into the materials and organisms I capture. At the same time, my commitment to a life guided by values and meaning shapes my perspective, reminding me that every detail in creation has purpose. This balance between science, art, and a deeper understanding of the world is what drives my passion for discovery.
My portfolio is a reflection of my curiosity, discipline, and appreciation for the intricate beauty of the world. Whether you are a scientist, an artist, or simply someone drawn to the wonders of the unseen, I invite you to explore my work and experience the world through my lens—where science, photography, and a sense of purpose come together to reveal the extraordinary.
